A dental bridge, as the name implies, consists of one or more false teeth that are held in place by two or more natural crowns or implant crowns. A bridge is recommended when there are some missing teeth. The false teeth, called pontics, replace missing teeth, and the adjacent supporting crowns or implants are called abutments. Similar to a crown, an impression or scanning of the bridge preparation is sent to the laboratory and the final bridge gets either cemented or bonded to the preparations. Dental bridges can be made of gold, porcelain fused to metal, and Zirconia among other materials.
